Let Me Tell You Something
By Nicole Goddard
Kids have this funny way of latching on to a saying and over-using it for quite some time. As of late, my three year old daughter has added, “Let me tell you something” in front of almost every sentence she has to say. Whether she is about to give me a detailed explanation of something that happened, or she just wants to tell me she’d like a snack, she is prefacing it with “Let me tell you something” in her endearing little voice.
Her earnest desire to ‘tell me something’ came to mind as I read Peter’s passage:
You must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. 1 Peter 3: 15-16 (Messiah pg 299)
When you live for Christ, it catches attention. Whether out of interest or as a challenge, you will be asked why. Why live for Christ?
Some of us may feel imposter syndrome, full of shame over our past. Some of us may break a sweat, searching our brains for a bible verse or two so we seem genuine. Some of us may be afraid to come on too strong and scare someone away.
Don’t overthink it, friend. Just be ready to share what Jesus has done in your life. Be a little vulnerable with your story and share the good news.
Kick it off with “Let me tell you something”! Your story could be just the thing that invites them to Christ!
