As Best You Can
By: Pastor Todd Crofford

Pilate replied, “Take guards and secure it as best you can.” So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it. -Matthew 27, NLT

Pilate had been told that there was risk of action by the disciples. Perhaps they would want to create a hoax of a resurrection by robbing the tomb of Jesus’ body. So Pilate took sufficient action to foil human power.

What I love about this expression is the “as best you can” part.  It didn’t matter how heavy the stone was or the headcount of the soldiers.  No one was going to keep Jesus down or closed in. Pilate didn’t realize he was contesting with the power of God. Someone probably should have told Pilate “Your arms are too short to box with God.”

When God determines something is going to happen, there is no man or woman who will stop it. This is why prayer is so important.  We are calling out on God to go into action.  Let your faith arise today as you ask him for the impossible. Then even the devil can do the best he can to stop it, but when God decides to move- it is as good as done!
