The Harvest Starts with Prayer
By Nicole Goddard

The world feels a little intense right now. War and strife in numerous parts of our world, and anguish and violence closer to home than we’d like. I’ve interacted with so many people that seem lost or indifferent to our creator, and I feel this overwhelming sense of urgency for them to connect with him.

I worry and wonder what I should be doing in these times.
Should I be ministering in that area?
Did I miss a moment with a stranger today?
Am I avoiding non-believing acquaintances because the conversations are harder?

Jesus gave direct instructions in today’s passage in Matthew:
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”  Matthew 9: 36-38 (Messiah pg 327)

Racking my brain trying to build the kingdom in my own efforts is not the call-to-action Jesus gives. He is calling us first to PRAY - to ask God to stir the hearts of his believers to take on the Great Commission. Pray that our sisters and brothers step up to their callings from Christ with urgency. Pray over our church plants, Relevant and Thrive as they build the kingdom south of us. And still be sure to pray for ourselves, seeking direction on where and how we should be reaching the lost.

As said in a quote I recently came across, “Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer moves God.” – E.M. Bounds
