Skill Sets

Our workspace is a sacred space when we are in it. And the work we are doing, the Lord has prepared us to do. The skills that the Lord has given you are carefully, intricately designed specifically for you. And every skill set and capability is a piece of the picture, designed to do kingdom work and connect the disconnected.

I know that building a good spreadsheet doesn’t always feel like kingdom work… but what if we treated it like it was because you were working next to someone who needed the light of Christ in their life? Folding shirts in a retail store is not glamorous, but what if we treated this skill set like it mattered because the next lady that walked up to the display was someone who needed to be ministered to?

God gives us skill sets for a reason. Let’s look at this text from Exodus 31:1-5. It says this, “Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts."

You and I are “filled with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.” God is appointing us in our offices, our job fields, our OIKOS to do the skillful work of kingdom building.

It is more than just a folded shirt or an excel spreadsheet. You are interacting with people all day who need to come to know Christ in your workplace.
