A Cold Cut Craving
By: Nicole Goddard

When I was pregnant for the first time, I quickly met a list of dietary restrictions. Most did not bother me, but not having a cold cut, deli sandwich proved to be quite the burden to bear. For months I dreamt of a Wawa Hoagie or Subway sub, tempted and wondering if it could really be that bad.

Even when the craving was at its worst, I simply could not chance bringing my sweet little baby any kind of harm. My body was not my own, it was a vessel of new life and I took great care of that honor. It was the most tangible experience I've had to what Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20:

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

We are home to the living God. The Holy Spirit dwells within us - to guide us, comfort us, and to empower us to live like Jesus.

You and I are not our own - we are sacred spaces. We can honor him by the way we care for ourselves, how we steward our time, and how we witness to the world around us. Note - a life set apart for him will be challenging and will look different from the rest of the world. But what a gift!

I finally got that Wawa Hoagie on a September morning at 3 am, delivered by my father using any excuse to get a peek at his first grandchild. That cold cut was pretty amazing, but how glorious it will be to meet my Creator after a life spent honoring him and His Spirit.
