Thank you…in advance!
By: Pastor Bob Cooney

Have you ever said “thank you” to someone before that person has done something for you, or given you something, or complimented you? Have you even told someone what a good job he or she has done before the job is done, or even started for that matter?
Many of us have, sometimes with a bit of sarcasm in the mix (myself included…).

To express genuine gratefulness to someone before the good deed is done – or the kind words are said – requires faith that the person will follow through with goodness.
The writer of Hebrews defined faith as, “…confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (11:1 NLT). That chapter tells of the faithful obedience of those who followed God purely “by faith” – without having been shown a snapshot of how things would turn out. That is the kind of faith that God desires for us to have; the faith that encourages us to act before seeing the outcome.

King David wrote, “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips” (Psalms 34:1 NIV). David praised God after He had seen God move. David praised God, in faith, in the midst of struggles knowing that God is trustworthy.

Going into 2026, let us all praise God NOW with similar faith – knowing that He has good things in store for us even though we will face trials.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20 NLT)
