He Cares
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Have you ever felt like God doesn’t see you? Like He doesn’t care that you’re struggling, or suffering, or sinking?
We see in Mark chapter 4 a brief moment of the disciples feeling that same way. They’re in the boat out on the water, the sun is setting, and a storm comes up.
A fierce storm.
Waves crashing over the sides of the boat… the disciples are struggling.
Water filling the boat… they feel like they’re starting to sink.
Fear begins to overtake them.
And Jesus… He’s napping in the back of the boat!
We read that, “The disciples woke him up, shouting, ‘Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?’
When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:38-39 NLT, p. 266 in Messiah).
Why was He napping? Because His perspective is different from ours. He knew they wouldn’t sink or drown. He knew that boat wasn’t going down. He knew He was in control and that the storm would stop at His command.
What looks insurmountable from our perspective isn’t causing Jesus any stress. A word from Him brings Peace to the situation.
Friend, whatever you are facing today. He cares. He sees you. He is more powerful than your storm. Talk to Him about the wind and the waves, ask Him for help. Maybe He’ll calm the storm or maybe He’ll calm you as you weather the storm; either way He hears you, He sees you, and He will answer you.
