Are you looking for Him?
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney

Have you ever noticed that when your attention is drawn to something, you tend to see it everywhere? For instance, I drive a Chevy Traverse, and when I first decided that I was interested in that particular vehicle – I suddenly started noticing them at every stop light, on every road, and in every parking lot. It seemed that the world was exploding with Traverses, when I had previously never noticed even one.

There is science behind this! It’s called the frequency illusion – when something you recently learned or became interested in seems to suddenly show up everywhere. Another way of viewing this is that when we focus our attention on something to learn more about it, we are training our brain to look for or notice it.

Now, let’s apply this to God. If you focus your attention on Him, if you study His characteristics, who He is, and what He does – you are training yourself to see Him. Suddenly, you will see Him everywhere!

Jesus told the multitude, “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8 NLT, p. 319 in Messiah). Can you think of a better way to purify your heart than to constantly turn your attention to God? The more that I understand WHO God is, the more I want to be in His presence, the more I want to know about Him, the more I want to be pleasing and obedient to Him.

Lord, I want to know You more, and I want to see You everywhere. Heavenly Father, let me see a world exploding with You everywhere that I look – because You ARE everywhere. Everything around me was made by You and for You, and You are worthy of ALL of my attention.
