Today’s reading is a little heavy. Jesus is admonishing the Pharisees.

He says:

“What sorrow awaits you experts in religious law! For you  remove the key to knowledge from the people. You don’t enter the Kingdom yourselves, and you prevent others from entering.” Luke 11:52

I write to my brothers and sisters in Christ today and to myself, don’t be a stumbling block for others to experience the goodness of God.

You see, the Pharisees tend to take, what they think is, a high place. They stood on God’s law, used it as a soapbox and lined it up with their narrative to get ahead of others. To block out the light.

Could it possibly be that we steal “the key to knowledge” from those around us by misusing scripture or twisting scripture to fit our own ideals about the world we live in? Creating misunderstanding about who our God really is.

AHH!

Do we not “enter the Kingdom” ourselves to be with God? Are we too busy in that high place…

Do we prevent others from “entering” in and experiencing God…

As Christians, we are expected to love others and be a light to the world. Not to stand in a high place, on that soapbox blocking the sun, preventing others from the warmth of salvation.

If you found this as humbling as I did, I would encourage you to be a key giver, a Kingdom enterer, and a light to others so they may come and see what God is up to these days.
