All In
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
Some days I think the greatest risk to my faith is boredom. I wonder what it says about me if I claim to have the power of the Holy Spirit like a rocket inside of me, but treat my spiritual pursuits like driving 53 in a 55?
If I claim to be all in, the safety zone may protect me, but it will never transform me. God does some of his best work when we are just outside of the comfort zone. Excitement comes on the other side of abandonment.
I’m thinking of that time Peter told Jesus, "Lord, tell me to come to you on the water." And Jesus simply said “Come”. (Matthew 14) We are tempted to focus on the fact that Peter eventually wavered and began to sink, but consider that other than Jesus, Peter is the only person on the planet who has “walked on water” as part of his résumé
Going all in this year may be saying “yes” to serve before you feel completely ready, inviting someone into your home that has nowhere else to go, giving a sacrificial gift, or graciously sharing your faith in a difficult room. It could be any of a 1,000 things that will scare you half to death, but if you obey, I promise it will energize your understanding of faith.
