On this Day…
By Nicole Goddard

If you use Facebook, you’re familiar with the daily memories feature of the app. The top of my memories page usually gives me the warm and fuzzies with sweet baby pictures of my older littles as well as scripture posts that still serve me well years later. About mid-way down showcases throwbacks of me and my husband pre-kids and overwhelming reminders of how fast time goes.

As I reach the bottom, I squint my eyes in fear of what I posted nearly 20 years ago - the high school and college aged Nicole that felt the need to share everything like Facebook was my diary. Some of these posts remind me of a season of great distance from God, where the memories are served with a healthy dose of shame and unworthiness.
In recent years, I’ve learned to fight back against those feelings with biblical truth.

Paul nails it in today’s reading in 1 Timothy:
But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 1: 13-14 (Messiah pg. 236).

You see, God gives us mercy because we just so desperately need it. We’re all marked by moments of ignorance and seasons of unbelief that should condemn us. But our God is a gracious God! He chooses to transform our past mistakes and rewrite our story with grace and love through his son Christ Jesus.

He’s so faithful - so generous! The proof is right there in my memories feed – a beautifully altered path with the light of Christ in my life!
