Holy Intentions, Human Distractions
By: Sheila Sonon
Colossians 1:12 states that “...the Father, who has qualified you, to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” That’s encouraging, because most of us don’t always feel very qualified. Some of us are juggling kids and work, some are serving our country, some are running farms before the sun even thinks about rising, and some are just trying to make it through the day without losing our patience or our keys.
Paul says Christ is the One who holds all things together. That’s good news, because some days it feels like the only thing holding us together is coffee, a protein bar and a traffic free day. We live in a world full of distractions — buzzing phones, endless to‑do lists, and responsibilities that don’t take a day off. Holiness can feel like something reserved for people with quiet lives and tidy schedules… which is basically no one I know.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Being still looks different for us. For a farmer, it might be a quiet moment in the barn. For a soldier, maybe it’s a breath before the next order. For a parent, it might be the three minutes of peace you get in the car before heading inside. Holiness isn’t about escaping real life — it’s about inviting God into the middle of it.
Trying to be holy today might look like choosing Scripture before scrolling, praying while driving, or turning your worries into conversation with God.. Christ is holding all things together — including you — even on the days when you feel stretched thin.
Give thanks to our Father who has already qualified us. Holiness isn’t perfection; it’s turning our hearts toward Jesus, right in the middle of our everyday lives.
