Live Set Apart
By: Pastor Todd Crofford

Two young fish were swimming together and came across a much older fish. As he swam by, he said to them, "Good morning little fish, how's the water today?" The one little fish looked at the other and said, "What's water?"

Before you toss the joke aside as silly, remember you probably have given no thought to the atmosphere that has been surrounding you all week either. That which is true for our bodies is also true for our spirits. We can become so surrounded by certain presumptions, mentalities, and ongoing behaviors of our world that we just mimic them in our own lives. We are quietly products of our environment.

God has called us to be set apart from the ways of our world. The apostle Peter reminds us,

"As he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'" (I Peter 1:15-16)

Stop and take a moment to ask yourself, "Have my loves, my opinions, my words and actions been ordered by the world around me this week? Or have I been different than the rest of the world because I am set apart by God as his holy temple in this world - a place where heaven and earth meet in me?"

I bet you guessed already that the word for holy here is also consecrated or sacred. Would your life look any different this week if you were determined to live consecrated - sacred and set apart - for God. If so, why not start now?
