Backspace Key

“Per my last email” I begin to frustratingly type. [Insert name] from [insert department] has irked my nerve again. If only he/she would read the whole thread, I wouldn’t have to keep explaining things. Does anyone not see all that I have on my plate? Am I the only one held accountable for my work?

I’d like to think this is only found in corporate America, but it’s everywhere, isn’t it? Colleagues and customers alike can irritate us and inconvenience our day. Our gut reaction can get caught up in the frustration, become resentful and blow off steam gossiping with others. We can easily take offense with our full workloads and looming deadlines.

Paul commanded the Thessalonians with this:

I don’t know about you, but I believe our feathers get the most ruffled when we don’t feel seen or appreciated, when we’re seeking validation from the world around us. But do you know who does see us? That’s right - God does! He sees the time put in, the care taken, the dedication given to your career. He’s assigned you this role and gifted you skills that glorify him when put to good use.

When we rest in his grace and work unto him, the inconveniences of the day diminish. We are able to use the backspace key to clear out our knee jerk response and make space for the fruits of the Spirit to shine – patience, kindness, and self-control just to name a few.
