What About Me?
By Nicole Goddard

I’m in that intricate stage of parenting where it seems I can’t tell my one child something, without the other feeling left out. I’ll compliment my daughter's picture she is coloring and my son will immediately ask, “what about me?!” as he shoves his Lego creation in my face.
One might say it comes honestly as every time I read Paul’s passage on spiritual gifts, my heart cries out “what about me?” I’m no great healer or prophesier. I only know one language and I feel much more comfortable receiving wise advice than trying to give it. My heart pouts a bit as I wonder what my spiritual gift is, or worry that my faith isn’t strong enough to receive one.

But then I realize I am trying to place the great I am, the almighty creator of the seen and unseen in a box. A box with defined edges that can only hold the gifts Paul references in 1 Corinthians.

Friend, we serve a much greater God than that! An entire secondary book the size of the Bible could be created and likely still not outline all of the spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit can bestow. These gifts are just as unique and intrinsic as the prints on our fingertips.
So how can we know what our spiritual gift is? Paul tells us to consult the Holy Spirit:
It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 1 Corinthians 12:11 (Messiah pg. 141).

Pray to the Holy Spirit. Ask for him to reveal your unique gifts. Serve in the spaces that interest you and seek the counsel of your brothers and sisters in Christ. Find your gift and share it!
