A New Awareness
By Nicole Goddard

It’s the last page of the year, a brand new year is just hours away! Are you making a New Year’s Resolution? Are you anticipating a new season? Is there something you’d like to see change as quick as the 5 turns into the 6 of 2026?

This new year, I want to up my radar for God’s work in my life. I don’t want to miss his details in the seconds of my days and I want to appreciate his miracles unfolding all around me. I want to be hyper aware of his presence and provision.

As the book of Mark tells of Jesus’ miracles – feeding the five thousand and walking on water – he ends his notes with the following scripture:

They were completely astounded, because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened. Mark 6:52

The Hebrew word for hardened is pōroō, meaning their hearts were calloused, dull, unable to understand their sovereign God before them. The disciples witnessed outright miracles at the hands of Jesus and yet they still weren’t trusting God to provide.

One might be tempted to pass judgement on these disciples, but could we be just as dull to his presence around us? Could we be taking for granted our first breath of the day, the full pantry, pulling the car into the driveway at the end of the day as if they are not miracles?
This year I want to get out of my own way! I want a softened heart that beats fiercely for the Lord and trusts in his provision. A renewed spirit that is finely tuned to his presence and work in my life. Will you join me?
