What Will He Ask of Me?
By Nicole Goddard
I’m going to tell you about a friend of mine. This friend loves Jesus. Like really loves Jesus. She’s accepted him as Savior and is blown away by the miracles she’s seen him do. But what this friend won’t tell you, is that while she loves God, she struggles to fully submit. Reason being, she has a fear of what God could ask her to do. She’s seen friends called into international ministry work, others gifting their finances, and friends opening their homes to complete strangers.
Maybe this friend would share those fears after a few coffee dates with you. But the one she wouldn’t ever want to admit out loud - what if he asks her to walk through the unspeakable?
Loss.
Sickness.
A lowest low that would send her through the fire, flames scorching from every side.
The kind of stories that goosebump testimonies are made of. It’s not the testimony in the end that scares her - the glory given to God would be worth it. It’s what she would have to endure to get there.
What I remind myself - I mean this friend of mine - is that Jesus experienced this same battle between flesh and spirit in the Garden of Gethsemane. The night before he would face the cross, Jesus prayed in anguish:
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" Luke 22:42
Our Savior knows this very feeling. He faced the unspeakable and yet he still submitted, all for the Glory of God and for the miracle that would occur three days later.
Whether walking mountaintops or trudging through valleys, a life fully submitted to our God will be nothing short of miraculous. Let’s not miss out on this my friend!
