Drawing Near
By: Kaleigh Hoschar
This is my favorite time of the year for ALL kinds of reasons! But the best of them all is that this time of year we celebrate Christ drawing near to us…
Coming to earth in a manger, in a stable rather than on a throne in a castle. He comes quietly and gently. As near to us as the very breath in our lungs.
Do you know that he meets us like that every day of our lives? That while we toil in the hardships that life brings and we suffer in a world that is broken he draws near to us. Or even when we Christmas shop and get busy, making all the things happen for all the people in our lives. I think we can easily forget the reason for the season.
Gifts become distracting.
Calendars become overwhelming.
Expectations become disappointing.
So much so that we miss this idea:
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:10-12
In the quietness that you can find today… remember a God who quietly and gently offers His presence in all the places of our lives. He is our Savior, our Messiah, who tells us not to be afraid and who draws close to us in this beautiful advent season and in the chaos of our world.
