Cast Your Cares on Jesus
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
If you are reading this on Halloween, I suppose this is the “scariest day of the year”. Let’s be honest, most of us aren’t nearly as scared by the skeletons in our neighbor’s yard as we are by the ones in our own closet. The lurking fears of last week’s job dust-up, last month’s not-so-great medical report, or the last time we returned to some devastating habit. These things weigh on our minds heavily and we can get fixated on them.
Peter knew exactly what we had to do with those types of anxieties. He told us “Cast all your cares on him because He cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7) The word cast is not a little toss, it is hurling, thrusting things away from ourselves onto God. Nagging skeletons don’t disappear forever. Like pesky Halloween decorations, they keep popping up. And when they do, we need to keep casting them on Jesus.
So, today don’t be anxious about the bogeyman, and certainly don’t spend your time worrying about those closet skeletons either. Give it all to Jesus. He cares for you!
