A Safe Place
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Change is hard. Sometimes painfully hard. When my mom died and my siblings and I sold her home, I was so unsettled by the fact that I could no longer step foot through that front door. The home where I had been raised, the place that held so many memories, the porch where I had laughed with friends, the living room where my husband asked me to marry him, and the kitchen where I had felt the warmth of my mom’s love so many times – those spaces were no longer mine. The safety of that home was suddenly no longer accessible to me.
Things change. People, places, and things come and go.
The world around us is changing in big and small ways. And technology is causing it to change at a rate that seems faster than ever before.
I’m so glad that my hope and safety are not found in people, places, or things.
There is a song we sometimes sing on Sunday mornings called “Only King Forever.” The lyrics go like this:
Our God a firm foundation
Our rock, the only solid ground
As nations rise and fall
Kingdoms once strong now shaken
But we trust forever in Your Name
The Name of Jesus
We trust the Name of Jesus
You are the only King forever …
I’m so glad that we can trust forever in the Name of Jesus.
Rulers, buildings, and even technology - every created thing in this world will come and go, but our God is forever.
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
He is the solid ground that is always good, loving, and full of hope. A safe place that is always accessible to me. The only King forever!
