Potlucks
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
Through the church, the manifold wisdom of God is made known…
-Ephesians 3:10
Growing up, my church used to call them Potlucks. I think now they have morphed into community dinners or covered dish suppers - but same thing. Families showed up with a main dish or dessert to share, and we all ate together.
I would argue that Potlucks were the best eating ever because everyone brought the dish they are best at making. It was “Blue Ribbon” food from start to finish. When everyone contributes their unique specialty, the results are so satisfying.
The same is true with wisdom. Each part of the body of Christ provides something that adds to the sum total. We have the zeal and energy of the youth, the spontaneous joy of the new believer, the seasoned truths of the long-time saints, the well-studied teaching of pastors and leaders, the determined faithfulness of those suffering, and the honest questions of the seeker. That’s only mentioning a few. Put together, you have the wisdom of the Church that instructs all of us right where we are at. The dish you bring to the table is just as important as any of the others
In a world that is living on the tasteless, moldy dregs of unwise teaching and choices, we have a banquet of wisdom to offer.
