Mary Ellen
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
I’ve never met Mary Ellen, but I know her name and she has had a great impact on my life, and the future of my family.
Mary Ellen, through the giving of her own time, energy, and resources, changed generations.
One day Teri, a young struggling single mom with 6 children, met Mary Ellen, who said to her, “Let me tell you about a man I know, His name is Jesus.” Mary Ellen took Teri out to lunches, and church services, and at one point gave her use of a car for several months.
And because of Mary Ellen’s investment, Teri came to know Jesus as her Savior.
And because Teri came to know Jesus as her Savior, several of her children are serving the Lord today. I am one of them!
I’ve never met Mary Ellen but someday, in the coming age, I will hug her and thank her for her investment and the way it has impacted my world.
In 1 Timothy 6:18-19 Paul wrote, “Command [the rich] to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
I don’t know what Mary Ellen’s financial status was, but I know she was rich. She was generous and willing to share her time, her love, and even her car. She was willing to share Jesus. My family is proof of the treasure that she has stored up for herself in the coming age.
