What Giving Does

Some people are always greedy for more,
but the godly love to give!

Anyone remember the Kid’s Christian show Veggie Tales? There was a great one-liner on the video about greed. Larry the cucumber continues to accumulate and finally his good friend Bob the tomato asks him, “Larry, how much do you need?” To which he responds, “I don’t know, how much is there?”
Madison Avenue creates greed in our culture by convincing us we can’t live without something we didn’t even know existed a few minutes ago. Too often we lie in bed at night or find ourselves daydreaming about how we are going to get something.
Today’s text says that the righteous are scheming about something completely different… How can I give more away? They are the ones whose lives are filled with joy. Plenty of times we have heard that accumulating does not bring joy, but too seldom have we been reminded that giving things away does!
Try it this week. Do something outrageously generous and see if it makes you ridiculously happy.
