Who We Are in Christ
By: Denise Vukmer
I have recently spent some time going through boxes filled with old photos, cards, artwork from when our kids were little, and even artwork from grandkids. As a wife, mom, and grandparent, I was surprised by how much we have accumulated over more than 30 years. It seemed that every piece of construction paper our children had ever touched had some level of significance!
As I ventured down memory lane, I came across items that made me think "Why on earth did we save this? Then, I discovered other items that offered a beautiful opportunity for honest reflection. Digging through these boxes gave me a moment to consider the changes in myself, my marriage, and my family since Christ became the focal point in our home. We are different now compared to where we started. The way we spend our time, what we value, and how we treat each other have all changed since placing our faith in Christ.
In Galatians 5:16, Paul tells us, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”. As believers in Jesus, we have the beauty and benefit of the Holy Spirit living inside of us, a very real and active part of our existence. When we embrace the Holy Spirit as our guide and deny our flesh, we can live into the identity and the life that Christ has for us.
I encourage you to take time and reflect. Can you see that moment when you chose to walk by the Spirit, leaving the desires of the flesh behind? As you recognize that line where different begins, celebrate the peace and joy that come when we see God’s Holy Spirit working within us!
