Heart for the Lost
Have you ever sat down and considered what this world would be like if every single person came to know Christ? And not just know Christ, but genuinely love him and live out their faith. Can you imagine? It quite literally sounds like heaven on earth.
But my goodness does that feel impossible. It technically isn’t – it could happen. Anything is possible with our God, but it does feel unattainable when you look around at the world we are in today. But please don’t let this discourage you into thinking, well if I can at least secure my salvation and my immediate family’s, then I’ve done my job. It can be an easy narrative to fall into – I know I have.
But our God asks more of us. He asks us to have a heart for the lost.
We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters.
The one that does not love remains in death.
1 John 3:14
This passage tells us that the mark of a genuine Christian faith is someone who loves their brothers and sisters. But it doesn’t just reference our favorite brothers and sisters, or the ones that are easy to love. This includes the lost, the broken, the confused, the ones that may make you uncomfortable. A love like this doesn’t come naturally, but comes from a life that has been born again in Christ.
May we call on the Holy Spirit to give us a heart for the lost. To pray for them and share the gospel with them. To celebrate with them when they choose Christ and are officially found! A celebration of one more soul closer to a world of believers!
