He Makes Beautiful Things
By: Chrissy Cooney
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) tells us, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
This scripture literally takes my breath away. When I read “masterpiece” I think of beautiful things - a colorful sunset, a garden full of bright colored wildflowers, a newborn baby… When I read “good things He planned” I think of purpose. A life transformed, revived, and made new by God’s mighty hand.
I think of David, a shepherd boy who became king.
I think of Rahab, a prostitute who ended up in the lineage of Jesus.
I think of Paul, once Saul – persecutor of Christians, transformed to spend his whole life spreading the gospel.
I think of Chrissy; pulled from a life of sin, guilt, and shame – made new by Jesus and transformed into His child.
There is a song by the group Gunger that contains the following lyrics,
“All this pain, I wonder if I'll ever find my way, I wonder if my life could really change, at all;
All this earth, Could all that is lost ever be found? Could a garden come out from this ground, at all?
You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of us”
He makes beautiful things out of us.
If you have been made new by Jesus, you are God’s masterpiece - made new by His unmatched skill and artistry. You are beautiful and full of purpose! Are you living as that new creation? Are you thinking, speaking, and acting in a manner that honors the beauty and purpose of God’s masterpiece? Let’s live lives worthy of the beauty that He has created in us!
