Goodness of God
By: Pastor Amie Donovan
One of my all-time favorite songs is “Goodness of God” by Bethel. These lyrics get me every time.
“I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands.
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God.”
If I asked you why you feel God is good, what would your answer be?
Without a doubt, each response would be full of stories from our past, along with ways we see Him in our today. Some of us would talk about what God has pulled us out of, others what God has taught us through. Some stories would recall miracles, and others comfort in the day-to-day happenings of life.
Each of us, however, would be able to answer this question.
Why do you say God is good?
I love this song because the truth is, all my days I have been held in His hand. His mercy has never failed me and His grace is sufficient in every and any season of life. When life is easy and the path is clear, I sing of the goodness of God. When life is confusing and the path is rocky, I will sing of the goodness of God. I will meditate on all He was, on all He is, and all He will forever be. God is good because God is love. Would you pray this Psalm with me?
Oh Gracious and Good God,
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness and shall sing of Your righteousness. (Psalm 145:5-7)
All the days of my life I will worship You alone.
In Jesus's Name, Amen.
