The Word Became Flesh
By: Lori Ennis
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
If you’re like me, you’ve likely seen lots of plays, reenactments and productions that show the Christmas story.
And, if you’re like me, you probably tear up as you’re ‘watching’ Mary give birth. ‘Listening’ to our Savior’s first baby cry.
As a mother especially, it gets me every time.
But today, as I write this, with no visual but these words from one of His beloved, John, I am overwhelmed with the magnitude of His birth.
That the Creator and Ruler of the universe loves me and loves you SO much that He’d become flesh in His Son and dwell among us.
Born in the most humble of accommodations, living a life of even more humility, He brought us the fullness of His grace and truth–His Word come to life in an innocent baby who’d save the world.
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year for many reasons. The most important, however, is it’s a time we really stop and reflect upon the true gift of the season – The Word becoming flesh and bringing redemption and salvation to a world full of those of us who so desperately need Him.
Father, may we keep the spirit of Christmas in our hearts year-round, as we serve and live in your grace and truth and everlasting love.
