Don’t be foolish
Pastor Amie Donovan
“As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” - Proverbs 26:11
Yes, that is a Bible verse.
I can literally see Pastor Todd putting his hand on his forehead as he reads this.
Tom and I have two dogs, Sadie and Buddie. This proverb is one we’ve watched in action and each time we ask ourselves, “why?!” We cannot understand the pull to going back to something so gross. Can you?
Yet, the more I meditate on this proverb, the more I realize my actions can be just as confusing. If I’m being honest, sometimes I behave in really foolish ways. When we battle with returning to our sin and repeating sinful behaviors, it's as if we've forgotten how gross it made us feel!
It’s as if we decided that failure now has the power to define us, so we go back to the same old things.
This isn’t true! Live wise!
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
You have been made new! Live into your salvation by reminding yourself Christ has set you free from the strongholds of your yesterday!
Get back up, friend! The LORD has redeemed you!
Abba Father, we thank you that we are not defined by our failures but rather by your grace! Lord, would you help us not to return to the foolish things that keep us stuck? We love you, Lord! We desire to live for you alone! Thank you for making us a new creation!
Amen!
