The "Not-So-Secret" Secret
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for … training in righteousness."
2 Timothy 3:16 NIV
I have a "not so secret" – secret. Studying the Word of God is the secret discipline for Transformation. Seriously.
Other books are useful for information--like the plumbing book I have to teach me how to change out my garbage disposal. But only the Bible was given for true transformation.
Paul explains that God's Word is profitable, "For teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." Guided by the Spirit of God, the Word of God transforms our mind and works its way to every area of our lives.
This is a four-step process. Teaching focuses our mind and shapes the way we think. Rebuking pricks our conscience so that we don't travel the wrong direction. Correction molds our will so that we see the wisdom of God's plans. Training in righteousness shows us how to act more like Christ.
If you want to be effective and fruitful as a Christian and see true transformation in your life, get into the Word of God. Now, THAT’s a secret worth telling!
