Killing Me Softly Devotional Series – Week 2 – Procrastination – Thursday - Pastor Mark White
Do It Now!

Proverbs 6:4 (TLB)
“Don’t put it off. Do it now. Don’t rest until you do.”

How often have we put off until tomorrow something that should have been done today?  Probably more times than we care to admit.  Procrastination or putting off until another time to do something essential is a problem we all face. It usually happens when we are too busy, too lazy, the task is boring or uninteresting, or we’re just overwhelmed.

I love how simple and straightforward this verse puts it “Don’t put it off. Do It now.” It also states, “Don’t rest until you do.”

So, why do we procrastinate and find it challenging to get things done right away?

This individual seems to be asked to fulfill a request now but chooses to wait until later to do it. With this kind of behavior, the person either drags their feet, postpones handling something difficult, delays an unpleasant conversation, or waits until the last minute to perform essential tasks. Putting off tomorrow what you can do today is energy-draining and can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, unnecessary anxiety, depression, and even doubt.

The good news is that we don’t have to procrastinate if we rely on God to direct our activities and actions. Without God, we tend to use the time He gives each of us unwisely.  The Apostle Paul instructs us in Ephesians to make the best use of the time God gives us.  He also encourages us in Colossians that we walk in wisdom as we manage our time.

Pray this prayer with me:
Heavenly Father, Thank you for reminding us to act now when you ask us to do something. Amen.
