Stay Steadfast
Pursue a steadfast focus on the Lord so you may find peace.
ERICKA ANDERSEN

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Isa. 26:3 (NIV)

My team and I were stuck without a ride after landing in Venezuela. Angry-looking, gun-strapped men stood guard in the airport lobby while we waited for the announcement that our expected bus was (hopefully!) on the way. Fellow travelers eyed us with unfriendly suspicion, and the airport began to feel like a prison. My heart rate increased as I considered sleeping quarters if we weren’t able to reach our hosts. With zero cell phones and one phone number to reach them via a single, questionable-looking phone booth, things felt dire.

In a circumstance like this, fear can be debilitating, but God has equipped us to overcome such oppressive emotions. Pick any spot on the map and God will grant you “perfect peace” if your mind is set on him. The Holy Spirit can and will fulfill this promise if we choose to trust him in those moments of overwhelm.

My group decided to break the midnight silence of the airport lobby by delivering a first-rate performance of the presentation we’d been practicing for weeks, for anyone who cared to listen. Beneath the glow of flickering fluorescent lights, beside stony-faced guards, we stood tall, singing “Our God Is an Awesome God” in Spanish. Rather than cower in fear, my group chose the path of trust. Tension melted as we felt the “perfect peace” of God wash over us.

Pursue a steadfast focus on the Lord so you may find peace.
