Staying Focused on Jesus – Allison Hand
The Focus of Correction

Scripture Reading - Proverbs 13:14 & 20 (NIV)

"The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death."
"Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm."

Have you ever hung around someone long enough and started to talk like them or do things as they do?  I have a friend from Georgia, and when I spend a lot of time around her, I start to say "y’all" because she says it so much.  I pick up on her words, and they begin to become a regular part of my vocabulary.  This same idea goes for having people around us that draw us closer to God or further away.

As Christ-followers, we should desire to walk in obedience to God. I am looking at Christ's example and how He lived on earth in obedience to God through humility and serving others—wanting to take every evil and false thought and give them to God so we can live and look more like him and live a life worthy of the gospel.  As much as I try and do this, I am a sinful person and, for some reason, will turn to my ways to handle a situation. I mess up when I rely on my thinking. And when that happens, I hope I have a wise friend that leads me to truth and points me back to Christ.

Think of it in reverse.  Are we that kind of wise friend to others when heading down the wrong mindset away from Christ? Do we step out in obedience and gently serve them God's truth to point them back to Him and His wisdom?

Be willing to let others correct you when you are not focusing on God, and be ready to be that friend to guide someone else towards God when they are not.
