Holy Holy Holy

Isaiah 6:1-4 (NIV)

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.”

We serve a holy God. Set apart from all creation. Worthy of our complete devotion because he is perfect in his goodness and righteousness. God is so holy that scripture doesn’t just say it once, but three times, holy holy holy is the Lord God almighty.

And as awesome as He is, what’s even more incredible is that our holy God dwells within us as the Holy Spirit. We have become the temple of the almighty God. Before Jesus came to earth, God's dwelling place was in a special tent and then the temple. That was the place where a special priest would meet with God on behalf of the people. But after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension back to heaven, people have become the dwelling place of God, and we get to meet directly with him at any time.

But I think we can forget the magnitude of God's holiness, and it becomes trite. Being God's temple is serious business. If God, high and exalted, seated on a throne, also lived in us, we need to live lives that reflect that through daily worship and serving. Are there any areas of your life that do not reflect that you have the holy God living in you? Or maybe today is a day to worship God in all His holiness.
