Consider your calling
By: Allison Hand
“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” I Corinthians 1:26-29
Have you ever stopped to think about how amazing it is that the God of the universe with all power and might choose how to reveal himself and save us?
It is insanely incredible and marked with humility, meekness, and lowliness. From the town he would be born in to the family He was given.
To the place he was laid as a baby to the very first people who heard about his birth and then still to His life and how He lived and died. All now, even further, as to how He calls people.
God’s Kingdom is so upside down when compared to the world’s standards. The world focuses on pride and worth and power and eloquence and extravagance.
But God uses things the world considers foolish and shameful and weak.
Oh, how encouraging it is that our calling from God is not based on our greatness but on His.
That he calls the lowly, the weak and the inexperienced to serve in His Kingdom.
But oh! How convicting is it also that we are called to live and serve in the same manner of Christ in humility?
I pray that God would speak to our hearts and reveal the things in us that desire power and extravagance and pridefulness and replace them with humility and meekness and lowliness so that no flesh should glory in his presence.
Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord!
