Stop Misunderstanding From Multiplying
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
“This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of
worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then, and only then, come back and work things out with God. -Matthew 5:23-24 MSG
Let’s get right to it today. If you want to keep trouble stirred up, talk ABOUT someone. If you want resolution, talk TO them. Have an open and loving discussion. Reconciliation follows loving conversation.
Here was Jesus’s revolutionary teaching. We cannot be right with God if we don’t intentionally make things right with others.
Read that last sentence again…I’ll wait.
Turns out I am not overstating that. It was Jesus who used the word FIRST. Not after worship; not alongside your spiritual walk.
Of first importance, go have the talk.
That is easier said than done.
I have experienced more than my share of stomach-churning walking into an office or restaurant anticipating a difficult conversation, but it beats the alternative.
When we don’t really sit down and look someone in the eye and say, “Let’s come to an
understanding,” we allow misunderstanding to multiply.
