Real Life Devotional Series “Hunger” – Week 1 - Thursday – Pastor Mark White
What are you Hungry For Today?
Psalms 63:1 (NLT)
"O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water".
When I was 14 years old, I would cut several lawns in the summer. On one sweltering day after I had finished, I was dehydrated! My body was crying out for water, but all I had was a couple of cans of Coke. It seemed to satisfy for a moment, but the more I drank, the more thirsty I became.
The Holiness of God is what our Souls hunger and thirst for every day. Let us put down those things that don't satisfy our thirst and say with the psalmist, "My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you."
Our appetites seem to dictate the direction of our lives. Whether it is the cravings of our stomach, desire for possessions, power, or the longings of our spirits for God, but as Christians, the hunger for anything other than God can be an enemy. Because our hunger for God and Him alone is the only thing that can satisfy our souls.
Do we have that kind of hunger for Him? Do we have an intense thirst for the Holiness of God?
Or are we full, from nibbling and drinking to long at the table of the world that there is no room for the glory that He provides? If we are full of what the world offers, then perhaps we should lay down the "Cokes" of this world and drink the living water that is Jesus Christ.
We are allowing the Holy Spirit to increase our soul's hunger and thirst for God.
