Hardships for God’s Glory

Scripture Reading -  II Corinthians 12:10 (NIV)

Did you know that if you glue a broken board back together, the glued joint is stronger than the original wood?  Doctors who specialize in knee surgery tell us that a repaired knee is 30-70% stronger than the original. I guess some restored things exceed their initial unbroken potential.
I have seen God prove that true in many lives, including my own. Years ago, I heard a preacher say, “Those whom God will use, he first must bruise.”  We have been saying that we should not be surprised when we face wounds in this life, but we might find some surprising benefits to life after the wounding!

If you have been through a dark season, faced a tragedy, or find yourself staring at scars from a past injury, maybe it’s time to start asking how God can use that for someone else’s good.  That’s what the Apostle Paul did, even to the extent that he declared in our scripture reading today:

“For Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

I know it’s a monumental leap to see the weaknesses and hardships of our lives as strengths to be used for God’s glory. But when we get there, our lives can have a more significant impact than ever before.
