Heal Beyond Brokenness 2.17.21

Heal: Beyond Brokenness Devotional Series – Week 2 –  Second Wind – Wednesday - Lori Ennis
To Comfort as We've Been Comforted

Scripture Reading - II Corinthians 1:4 (The Message)
"He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us."

No one wants to suffer. And I've yet to meet the person who truly wishes for suffering so they can be a comfort to someone else. I'm sure they exist, and if I am honest, I'd like to be that righteous.

But I'm not. Pain hurts, and I'm not too fond of it.

That's the thing about life, though. We don't always get to avoid it. Jesus tells us that in this world, we will have trouble. It's a given.

So how comforting is it to know that though we may suffer, we can trust Him not to waste a single tear we shed? He collects each one. He records each one and redeems them.

He uses our pain and suffering to comfort others. When we're in the throes of hurting, that knowledge may not be super comforting. But when the fog of the hurt that envelops us lifts a bit, to know that God doesn't waste our pain is a balm to a grieving soul.

Know this. God is a good, good father who doesn't purpose our pain, but you can take it to the bank that He has a purpose for it if He allows it. He walks through it with us and comforts us in ways we couldn't imagine. And then, He will enable that comfort to be for His glory as we, in turn, share that comfort we knew so intimately.

They say you never truly understand until you walk in someone's shoes; it's true. But that also means you have a God-given gift in being able to relate to someone else in a way that no one else may be able to. And in that, you can find the purpose that only God could ordain.
