Staying Focused on Jesus - Monday – Pastor Chris
Focus on Living in Action

Scripture Reading — Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV)

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Your devotion today is not so much about receiving an inspiring word but practicing being a true disciple of Jesus. Read the Franciscan prayer below slowly line by line, then answer the question following the line you just read. Pray to the Holy Spirit to guide you on how to respond with a real heart of love. Please write down your answers, look at them over the next week, and make a commitment to respond to them authentically. If you complete the assignment, you are practically living out the Great Commandment passage you just read.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace (where do you need to be peace)
Where there is hatred, let me sow love; (where do you need to sow love)
Where there is injury, pardon; (who do you need to pardon)
Where there is doubt, faith; (where is your faith needed)
Where there is despair, hope; (who do you need to share hope with)
Where there is darkness, light; (where do you need to be the light in the darkness)
Where there is sadness, joy; (who needs to experience your joy today)
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek, to be consoled as to console; (who needs consoling)
To be understood as to understand; (who do you need to understand better)
To be loved as to love. (who needs your love)
For it is in giving that we receive; (where do you need to give)
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; (who needs you to forgive them)
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. (Let your will become Jesus’ will)

As you reflect on this today, listen to the voice of Moses from Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Have a blessed day as you bless others.
