God, What Do You Want?
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
-Matthew 6:28-29 NIV
I have a closet with a bunch of clothes. Too many I think. At times I have walked into that very closet, looked at it all and thought, “I have nothing to wear.” That’s ridiculous.
Sometimes we want clothes to prove we are stylish, up with the times, pretty, classy, wealthy, or just that we have together. Do you know what God says about clothes? I can outclass your best outfit with a lily that has a lifespan counted in days not years.
What is true of our clothes is true of everything else. There is not a single possession we wear, drive, sleep in, or play with that should be focused on impressing someone else. There are much better purposes for our money.
When God has blessed us, it doesn’t mean we cannot buy anything for ourselves, but it does mean we can’t spend everything on ourselves. The next time we are considering a new TV, the next generation phone, or a nice outfit, let's make sure we first ask the question, “Is there something else God wants me to do with this money?”
