Your Waiting is not Wasted.
By: Pastor Adam Munshaw
“But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
How was your week? “Good, busy.” How are you doing? “Oh fine, busy.”
These are often our normal responses to people when they check in on us.
But how do you do with slowing down? I usually find myself juggling multiple responsibilities at the same time, or wearing multiple hats, as I like to call it.
I change lanes if someone is going the speed limit while driving. I count how many people are in the lanes of the grocery store check-out to pick the fastest one. I expect my Amazon package to show up in two days or less.
I don’t often like slowing down - let alone waiting.
Isaiah 40:31 promises us those that wait on the Lord will find new strength. This is not a permission slip to keep running on empty, or to keep overloading our schedules to our breaking point.
This is an invitation to both wait and work.
The Hebrew word for “wait” in this passage is Qava - often translated wait, trust, look for, or hope. However, this same word is also used in Genesis 1:9 in Creation when the Lord says “Let the waters…”
What the Holy Spirit is reminding me as I write this is how the same God who leads us in seasons of waiting is the same God who commands the waters to part.
Sometimes, we fear slowing down because things might fall apart, but when we quiet ourselves before God - we experience His presence. The hope is not in our own planning or power, but in pausing in the presence of God, because in Him we will find new strength.
