Is this a big problem, or a little problem?
By Nicole Goddard
As a mother of young kids, my days are known to experience a meltdown or two or a hundred… Anything from sibling disagreements to Barbie’s hair not behaving can cause a dramatic flow of tears and frustration. My husband and I recently began asking our littles, “Is this a big problem, or a little problem?” As suspected most every problem is a big problem in their little hearts, but with time our littles are starting to be able to delineate the big from the small. Much to our humor we even witnessed our 3 year old daughter comforting her fussing baby brother, asking him “Is this a big problem or little problem Tucker?”
While I may have graduated from childhood meltdowns, I’m still a work in progress when it comes to managing my adult size problems. My giants can bring up anxiety, fear and anguish and completely take over my thoughts and focus. It’s in these moments that I need to also ask myself, “Is this a big problem or little problem?” Or rather, “How does this problem compare with the size of my God?”
I don’t write this to discredit the size of the problems you and I face in our lives. Some of our problems have big implications. Decisions can alter the course of our lives and some problems have souls at stake.
But God.
The fears of our problems shrink when we focus on the size of our God. Our good, good father who can do unimaginable things; can answer prayers in mysterious ways. Let our God, the promise keeper who has plans for our eternal good, grant you peace today!
You (God) will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you. Isaiah 26:3.
