Peace in Every Season
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Have you ever been in a season where it seemed that everything that could go wrong did go wrong?
Washer is broken. Check engine light is on in the car. A relationship with a coworker is tense and making the workplace uncomfortable. And then the bigger news comes – a family member is facing cancer and a heart blockage. And the icing on the cake is that a small disagreement at home blows up into a major argument.
Don’t we all face seasons like this? That’s why the saying “when it rains, it pours” exists. Some days, weeks, months, or years are just hard. Sometimes it feels like the hits just keep on coming.
In seasons like this I am so thankful for the Cross and the promise of Hope and Peace that we find in Jesus. In John 14:27 Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jesus knew His disciples were about to face a season of lost hope and desperation, and He knows that we face seasons like this too. And knowing this, He promises His Peace.
Peace that is beyond common sense – even when everything looks wrong, we can trust in the One who knows the beginning from the end, who is surprised by nothing, and who loves us and wants good things for us.
Peace that combats fear and anxiety. Our Great God is bigger than any problem we can face. He is bigger than any dark thought or desperate moment. Fear and Anxiety cannot exist in His Presence.
Whatever season you are facing, may the Peace of Jesus reign in your life today.
