Strength, Dignity, and a Dash of Chaos
By: Sheila Sonon
You’ve probably heard the saying, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.” I’ve lived enough life to know—that’s not just a cute quote for a coffee mug, it’s survival truth. Life throws punches. Some of us are living paycheck to paycheck, praying the car holds out another month. Some wonder where the next meal will come from, while others have more money than Midas but would trade it all for one real friend to talk to. Loneliness and stress don’t discriminate.
I get it. Life happens fast, and sometimes it hits hard. One minute I’m sipping my pumpkin chai latte thinking, “Okay, maybe I’ve got this,” and the next I’m bobbing and weaving through chaos, trying not to lose my mind—or my faith. But that’s when I remember Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
Now, my “laugh” isn’t always graceful—sometimes it’s a tired snort between tears—but that’s okay. Strength and dignity aren’t earned badges; they’re God’s gifts. He hands them to us like, “Here, wear this when life gets messy.” And even though the verse says she, let’s be real—men need this too. God clothes all His children with strength and dignity when we anchor ourselves in Him.
Because here’s the truth: we can plan, hustle, and worry all day long, but without Jesus at the center, the rest of it won’t hold. He’s the foundation that keeps us steady when everything else shakes.
So I take life one day at a time. I pray. I breathe. I laugh when I can. And I trust that God’s holding me together—because even when life feels uncertain, my strength and dignity are secure in Him.
