We Need Each Other
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Disciple Class changed my life.
When I sat down in my first Disciple Class I had already been a disciple of Jesus for many years.
And yet, Disciple Class changed my life.
It changed my life because suddenly I was in a community of believers who were digging into the Word of God together, struggling with, and sometimes disagreeing over, the meaning of difficult scriptures together. Applying the Word to our lives each week and then discussing how the Holy Spirit had made meaningful connections between the passages and our everyday struggles.
It changed my life because for 34 weeks we met weekly, prayed for each other, celebrated the births of children, recovery of sick loved ones, and successes at work. We mourned together, served together at WARM, and cried together over hard times.
It changed my life because it created a family. A family that still … three years later … still reaches out to pray for one another. A family that greets one another with familiarity, warm smiles, and big hugs when we cross paths.
Disciple Class changed my life because, during a season where I didn’t have much family around me, it filled my life with people who became family. More than Facebook friends, more than acquaintances or colleagues.
Galatians 6:2 tells us to, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” That’s what family does – we step in and make the load a little lighter.
We need each other. No App, computer platform, or AI Chatbot can give me a great big bear hug, cry with me, laugh with me, bring me soup, or approach the throne of God in prayer with me.
We need each other and we change each other’s lives.
