Love One Another
By: Pastor Todd
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples.
-John 13:34-35
If you like animation, I highly recommend Wild Robot. It’s a fun 90 minutes with some great messages. In one scene, the Robot rescues all sorts of animals into a cave to weather through a terrible winter. While in the cave the animals have to learn to coexist - even among predators and prey.
Of course, on the big screen, Dreamworks provides us with English speaking animals who can learn to get along and care for one another. I get it, movies are made for the suspension of disbelief. Let’s be honest: in the real world, they’re going to fight and kill one another. They are not able to move past that instinct.
You and I were created higher than the animals with capacities they do not have. We have the ability to move past fears, biases, misunderstandings and a history of hurt to learn how to love others who are quite different than us. To do so is to be fully human and to obey Christ’s mandate for us to “Love one another as I have loved you.” One of the big messages we were sending through the Fall Family Festival is that all are welcome. We aspire for this to be true every day of the year.
