A Transformational Encounter with Christ
By: Anna Williams
There is way more substance to be credited to Zacchaeus than climbing a sycamore tree to see the Lord because of his short stature. His encounter with Jesus led to huge transformational changes in his lifestyle and future pursuits. It led to financial restitution for so many families whom he had wronged.
Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”
Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. – Luke 19:8-9 NLT
Zacchaeus recognized that the pursuits of wealth, luxury and power were unfulfilling, and that the abundant life offered through a relationship with Jesus Christ was the key to fulfillment. With Jesus as Lord, he understood that taking responsibility for the care and love of his neighbors would provide the most rewarding life experiences.
Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson made this observation after decades of clinical practice and scientific research: “It's in responsibility that most people find the meaning that sustains them through life. It's not in happiness. It's not in impulsive pleasure.”
God’s Word is full of wisdom and guidance for us to shoulder our responsibilities in a manner that expresses love and sets us apart from unbelievers.
Do you feel exhausted and overspent lately? Make time today to read the Word. It will refresh your spirit and resolve.
