Week 12: September 3rd
Title: In His Time
By: Adam Munshaw
Seasons changing is always a funny thing here in Maryland. Every Summer there seems to be those two perfect days of Fall weather before going back into a heatwave. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”
Like Maryland weather, life doesn’t always have the cleanest transitions between seasons. Things don’t always go the way we think they should or as smoothly as they could. Transitions can be difficult from one time of our lives to the next.
From the freedom of summer to kids going back to school, or getting new orders to uproot your life and move, to unexpected losses of relationships or people.
I’ve been reading the book of James for my personal devotions and have been caught up in James 1:2-3.
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
The Greek word for “trials” is translated as “the putting to proof.” Transitions in our life, just like trials, put to proof who we actually are.
So when the seasons change unexpectedly on us, how do we consider it with pure joy?
Transitions and trials also remind us to rely on God and His timing. It is often when we are at our lowest when we need God the most.
So whether you are in a season of tearing down or building, hurting or healing, mourning or dancing, or any kind mentioned in Ecclesiastes 3, let God use it to produce in you perseverance and put to proof that character God has been developing in you.
