The Holy Spirit Has it Covered
By: Nicole Goddard
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27
Do you ever get off the phone with someone and think, I totally forgot to tell them that thing I called them about! Or maybe you run into someone and have a conversation, but as you're walking away you worry that you said something wrong or not the way you intended it.
It can feel that way sometimes in our prayer life. Maybe you feel like you've spent time with God, praying and casting all of your concerns on him and yet you walk away from your prayer time feeling like you forgot to tell him something. Or maybe you second guess your prayers - Were they too self-centered? Were my prayers in alignment with his will? Have I missed something he has been laying on my heart?
I hope to put you at ease as Paul tells us in Romans 8:26-27, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Our flesh may cause us to gravitate towards more self-centered prayers. We could find ourselves pushing our own wants and needs to be his will. We might worry we aren't doing it right. But don't let that hold you back, or make you second guess your prayer life. Paul tells us to still show up - to give God our time, our thoughts, our prayers. And the Holy Spirit who searches our heart will make up for the rest, interceding on our behalf and aligning us with the will of God. The third member of the Trinity is not only within you, but is praying for you!
